"I recorded this music in the underground Cistern at Fort Worden, Port Townsend, on the Olympic Peninsula of WA on 2-3 May, 2002. Formerly an army base manned to protect the NW US from Japan and other enemies, Ft. Worden has been transformed into a very active community center. Many thanks to Centrum, the Parks Department and all who helped coordinate my residency.

"The Cistern is capable of holding 2,000,000 gallons of water, but has been empty for some time. It is round, about 60 feet across, 25 feet high, and has incredible acoustic properties. Sounds move around in the space, reverberating for 15 seconds or longer. As the structure gradually settles into the grey dust of entropy, the Cistern itself creates sounds.

"On the second day of my residency, I flew in a small Cessna over the Peninsula, and then spent the afternoon down in the Cistern. An exceptional day, to experience such extremes!" - Amy Denio

About her instrument Amy says: "It's a Sonola 'Rivoli' 120-bass, ladies' model accordion. I have no idea about the particulars, except that it was made in Italy. I bought it from a guy from Beograd, who now lives in Florida."

For something completely different, listen to Amy's "Dubya and His Pa"
