Jody Stecher
Going Up on the Mountain
Acoustic Disc (www.dawgnet.com)

cd cover The reissue of two of Stecher's 1970's vintage classic albums is cause for celebration. It is a great collection of traditional and traditional-sounding tunes by one of the very best vocalists and best kept musical secrets in America. Stecher knows how to get to the essence of the music. Most of the cuts are from southern U.S. sources with some bluegrass touches, including "Turtle Dove," "The Hills of Isle Au Haut," and his famous version of "Wind and Rain." Stecher is accompanied by mainstays of old time music in the Pacific Northwest like Kate Brislin, Hank Bradley and Larry Hanks. His trenchant and fanciful commentaries are a bonus. - Stacy Phillips
