Sol y Canto
En Todo Momento
Redwing (www.redwingmusic.com)

cd cover The Boston area duo of Rosi and Brian Amador update Latin traditional styles on these covers and originals. They are joined by Alan del Castillo, who contributes vocals and kena (bamboo flute). A lively variety of guest musicians provide piano, bass, congas and percussion. The group's strength is in their mastery of the catalog of Latin styles. They slip naturally from bouncy sons to Tex-Mex bossa nova to their own complex gaita-driven music based on Venezuelan rhythms.

"En Todo Momento"
Production is scaled back intentionally to allow the lyrics of these love songs to shine. This allows Rosi's silky, lovely voice to bear the ballads and set in motion the all too few dance songs. Sol y Canto carefully maintains the rhythms while interspersing jazz and flamenco. They rely heavily on Amador's clean, harmonic Spanish guitar to accompany the singers, following the bass and piano. Their mastery of the techniques is undisputed. They just happen to be bucking the current trend of increased production in Latin music. - Brian Grosjean
