Lídia Pujol
Iaie
Resistencia (www.edires.com)

cd cover Let this record play, when you first acquire it, time and time and time again, to work its magic, get into your mind and your bloodstream and deep into your heart.

Let this record play, to enjoy Lídia's beautiful voice, the sweet deliverance of the words in Catalan, the admirable orchestrations, the pop sensitivity of the arrangements.

Listen!
Let this record play, deep in the night, on the train to work, watching the sun come up or lying under the stars.

Let this record play in front of a silenced television showing images of torment and turmoil or nature in all its magic and grace.

Let this record play and think of the peoples and the poets whose texts feature on this record: the Catalans, the Jewish Diaspora, Jacques Prévert, Federico Garcia Lorca, F.Ó. Doirín.

Let this record play and only then open the booklet and start reading the lyrics. My suggestion is to start from "Como Una Estrella" (Like a Shining Star), "Que Despierte La Novia" (Wakes up the Bride), then "Babel," "Rossinyol (Nightingale)," "Missatge" (Message), "Mná na Héireann," "L'Arbret" (The Little Tree), "Chanson dans le sang" (Song into the Blood), "Iaie" and finally "La cançó més wrta" ("The Shortest Song"). It is a journey from happiness to almost unbearable sadness, if you consider the lyrics, but you would never had thought of that listening to the record, since the music seems to express different feelings throughout the record.

And that's why it is so important to just listen to it when you first get it. You would be in great loss if you denied yourself the chance to let Pujol thrust the full emotions of her music upon you. - Nondas Kitsos
