Anders Norudde with Leo Svensson and Göran "Freddy" Fredriksson
Med hull och hår (Hook, line and sinker)
Giga, Sweden

cd cover Within the parameters set by the Swedish folk scene, Hedningarna have always managed to sound both traditionalist and innovative. Anders Norudde, fiddle player and fiddle maker, is a member of that group and this latest recording shows his talents on the more traditional side. It is necessary to point out right away that this is truly a collaborative effort together with Fredriksson (guitar and bouzouki) and Svensson (cello) and Norudde also plays moraharpa and Swedish bagpipe, thus enlarging the sound spectrum. The booklet is well produced, including a rare, enlightening interview with Norudde and information on all the tunes, both in Swedish and English.

Listen!
The tone here is traditional, emphasizing the drone-like qualities of the Northern heritage and a strong dancing feel to the melodies, with many polskas as well as a quadrille and a waltz. Med hull och hår works as a whole and it is difficult to single out pieces, even though there are some Norudde originals amongst all the traditional ones. It never sounds stifled or studied, revealing a joyful spirit and a deep affection for the material. This one is for fans of the Northern tradition and newcomers alike. - Nondas Kitsos
