Xterminator, featuring Luciano, Sizzla & Cocoa Tea
MLK Dub
Ras RASCD 3248

cd cover Xterminator’s Philip "Fatis" Burrell produced this 15-track powerhouse dub revue of today’s highest-flying dancehall, DJ and reggae regents, including Cocoa Tea, Luciano, Sizzla, Fred Locks, Louie Kulcha, Ninjaman and Ras Shiloh. Participating studio musicians include Grammy winner Sly Dunbar, Winston Brown, Donald Dennis, Dean Fraser, Luciano, Melbourne Miller and a posse of mostly female harmony singers identified only by first name. The textually minimal booklet presents a graphically compelling, dub-like invocation of Nobel Peace Prize recipient Martin Luther King’s universally resonant phrases, "I have a dream" and "free at last." Dream we do, and if freedom remains an elusive ideal, as this recording’s emancipated spirit testifies, the wicked must flee, and chanting down Babylon, we shall overcome. — Michael Stone
