Ferus Mustafov Subtitled "Macedonian Wedding Soul Food," saxophonist Mustafov and his band give warp-speed new meaning. Dueling accordions, scratchy electric guitars, solid rhythm section dominate, Ferus blows (wails?) and it all gets fed by some wild vocals. The band is central, there's little soloing here, just a constant barrage of notes by as many instruments as they can cram into an arrangement. Romany, Turkish and all manner of Balkan influences are here, along with a weird sense of jazz and blues tucked into the corners. It's pure Macedonian madness, powered by Hijaz Mustapha's beautifully hands-off production and Uncle Patrel's jacket.
