Putumayo presents some of Italy's best roots music ensembles and soloists in this collection. None of the selections on Italian Musical Odyssey have been released in the US before now, and many have never been heard outside of Italy. The compilation features leading figures in the Italian folk music revival movement such as Nuova Compagnia do Canto Popolare, Riccardo Tesi, La Ciapa Rusa, Lucilla Galeazzi, Fratelli Mancuso, Calicanto. Agricantus, Taken, Rua Port'Alba, Novalia and C�lic, young innovators who stretch the boundaries of tradition, are also featured.

Recorded in 1954 and 1955 by Alan Lomax and Italian ethnomusicologist Diego Carpitella, the recordings collected on The Italian Treasury made history even in Italy for the incredible strength of the traditional music still being sung and played throughout the country.
