Texas seems to attract its share of accordion players, and Pete Nalda was not immune to its call. Orignally from New Mexico, he played with various rock bands in and around LA before moving to Austin, Texas. In 1997 he joined South Carolinian guitarist Scott Allen and Texan upright bassist Bill Lawson to form Rumbullion, a band that is part chamber ensemble, part Gypsy jazz, with a healthy dose of American roots and European style. The first two songs, "June Bug" and "Cafe Noir" were recorded live at the Highlife Cafe in Austin by our friend Kay Hickman, so excuse the occasional clank of silver ware! "Trixitixia Urdina" is from their self-titled CD Rumbullion and show ones of Pete's musical fascinations, the music of the Basque accordionists Junkera and Leturia.
Pete Nalda's Home Page includes his own bio, and some info on Basque accordions. You can get their recording directly from the band, by e-mail.
