Ruggieri is an militant improvisationalist, a musician who searches for the note both within and without the standard norms of both traditional music and classical education. This recent piece, called "Improvvisazione guidata (tango) + La Cumparsita," was recorded live in concert. It roams through many familiar forms but is certifiably his own in both execution and outcome. His plentiful skill is only the half of it here. Ruggieri is an original.
