As Greg Harness write in his review of their previous recording, "In the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, there are a number of islands that are part of Quebec. Also in the Gulf is Prince Edward Island, which has some French-speaking enclaves. These Canadian islands are where Vishtèn comes from, and their music is both a celebration of their Acadian roots and an embracing of Celtic and other folk music traditions of the Canadian Maritimes, traditions which find connections stretching south to Cajun Louisiana and across the Atlantic to the Shetland Islands."

Now in 2015 we have Terre Rouge, an album that continues that journey, with a strong emphasis on the southern branches of the family tree.

While lyrical songs from the tradition, songs about love, travelling and everyday life, dominate the new recording, I wanted to single out one of their original instrumentals, "Trois Blizzards." It was inspired by a series of severe, record breaking snow events in the Canadian Maritimes, and I think it exemplifies the trio's strengths. - CF
