Music from Solo Cissokho and Indrė Jurgelevičiūtė
From the 2015 release Solo and Indrė (One Roots Music)

Listen
"Petit Pois / Sanoy"

Solo and Indrė have a simple manifesto: "We are all people from one root, just different branches." They then go on to prove their point in a set of songs from their respective branches in Senegal and Lithuania.

Solo Cissokho is familiar to many RootsWorld readers. Originally from Senegal, his kora has graced a number of Nordic recordings, including a series of CDs with Swedish fiddler Ellika Frisell, the seminal Frå Senegal til Setesdal - a classic crossover from the 1990s with Norwegian vocalist Kirsten Bråten Berg - and with his own Norway-based jazz ensemble, Cissokho System.

Indrė Jurgelevičiūtė is a Lithuanian singer and a player of the kanklë, the Baltic cousin of kantele, psalty and zither. She has taken her instrument into jazz, improvisational music and traditional folk territory.

Together, they create songs that merge and diverge, carried by the simple relationship of their instruments. - Cliff Furnald
