For those of you who are new to RootsWorld's "sharezine" concept or who need a little reminder, please read on? It will only take a minute. It won't hurt at all.
Back in 1992, when the internet was still in its infancy, I decided to create an online global music resource. It quickly grew into a musical "sharezine," following the community radio model I had known for so many years, sharing what we had for free, and then seeking volunteer financial support. This meant it was all available to anyone in the world, supported by those who cherished it most and had the means to help. It's still that way today.
RootsWorld has changed - made progress, backed-up, moved forward again, but the core ideal is still to bring together a group of people with a lot of passion and talent and share what they know and love. RootsWorld is not all things for all people, not a least common denominator. Other blogs and web sites out there publish faster and more prolifically. But I prefer to deliver the best we can, written by excellent writers with insight.
RootsWorld has provided an anchor for readers who want more than exclamation points and rehashes of press releases. "Providing content" may be the accepted business norm, but I prefer good information and reasoned opinion. The volunteers who contribute to RootsWorld are free to tell you what they think and hopefully, enlighten you. They write with passion, with spirit, with wit and intelligence. I am forever grateful to know such a great group of people.
So it's not coming as a shock what I am going to say next.
